The Bounty 15 hours unabridged Simon Prebble
Few episodes in the history of British sea-faring are as gripping and sensational as The Bounty--an account of a mutiny of 1789. While the French were having a revolution in Paris, in the South Pacific a very English coup took place when Master's mate Fletcher Christian deposed Captain Bligh, the ruler of his ship, and set off with his fellow mutineers for a new life in the paradise of Tahiti. The tale has all the ingredients of an adventure--Robinson Crusoe, Captain Cook, Robert Louis Stevenson and Lord of the Flies all rolled into one. And, as Caroline Alexander points out, myth and legend have often got in the way of the real truth of why the mutiny took place. She sets out to find out what really happened, and does so by not only reconstructing the fateful voyage of the ship, but also by focusing in on all the principal and minor characters in the drama.

The Measure of All Things 6 hours abridged Byron Jennings
During the years of the European Enlightenment, tradition and superstition handed down from the Middle Ages fell away before scientific and political movements aimed at improving the lives of common people. One such movement, by the French Academy of Sciences, was to standardize a system of measurement to replace the countless regional systems across France that complicated trade and often favored the wealthy. The meter was to be one ten-millionth the distance from the pole to the equator. Alder recounts the lives and labors of the scientists who attempted to measure the meridian and gives a detailed historical backdrop, illustrating how the French Revolution and ensuing wars with England and Spain complicated what was to be the greatest human endeavor yet. Plagued by discrepancies in calculations, and scandalous attempts to doctor the data, a small band of scientists nonetheless produced the basis for the modern metric system.

No End Save Victory 5 hours unabridged Leo Burmester
An absorbing, nonsynthetic series of close-up views of the war's multiple fronts and facets, these 44 essays are drawn from the pages of MHQ: The Quarterly Journal of Military History, a must-read for practitioners and fans of the flourishing subgenre. The names behind the essays will certainly pique the interest of general readers: Stephen Ambrose, Caleb Carr, Stanley Weintraub and many others. Highlights include Carr on Poland, 1939, and on German "old-school" Marshal Gerd von Rundstedt; Ambrose on the 1945 Rhine crossing--over its single remaining bridge--by a lesser-known U.S. division in pursuit of Rundstedt; and former deputy undersecretary of the army Thaddeus Holt on Maj. General Edward P. King Jr., "The King of Bataan." Cowley, who edits the What If? book series and is founding editor of MHQ, has chosen judiciously, taking us to Africa, Asia, Guadalcanal and other WWII hot spots. The combination of solid writing and star power has already made this collection a BMOC main selection and a History Book Club alternate; store-based sales won't be far behind. (Mar. 19)Forecast: Despite its size, this collection is anything but bloated and diffuse, and will appeal to readers who don't want to slog through a conventional one-volume history. The contributors' familiarity and respectability will put war-interest browsers over the buy threshold.

Peter and the Starcatchers (co-author Ridley Pearson) 9 hours unabridged Jim Dale
In an evocative and fast-paced adventure on the high seas and on a faraway
island an orphan boy named Peter and his mysterious new friend, Molly, overcome
bands of pirates and thieves in their quest to keep a fantastical secret safe
and save the world from evil. Bestselling authors Dave Barry and Ridley Pearson
have turned back the clock and revealed a wonderful story that precedes J. M.
Barrie's beloved Peter Pan. Peter and the Starcatchers is brimming with richly
developed characters from the scary but somehow familiar Black Stache and the
ferocious Mister Grin to the sweet but sophisticated Molly and the fearless
Peter. Riveting adventure takes listeners on a journey from a harsh orphanage in
old England to a treacherous sea in a decrepit old tub. Aboard the Never Land is
a trunk that holds a magical substance with the power to change the fate of the
world - just a sprinkle and wounds heal and just a dusting and people can fly.
Towering seas and a violent storm are the backdrop for battles at sea.
Bone-crushing waves eventually land our characters on Mollusk Island - where the
action really heats up.

Tara Road 6 hours abridged Terry Donnelly
Against all odds, two newlyweds manage to buy the house of their dreams. In 1982, property speculation is beginning to be a big, big thing in Dublin--and their street is very much in an up-and-coming part of town. "They laughed and hugged each other. Danny Lynch from the broken-down cottage in the back of beyond and Ria Johnson from the corner house in the big, shabby estate were not only living like gentry in a big Tara Road mansion, they were actually debating what style of dining table to buy." But for its various inhabitants, the street is to become a boulevard of dreams--some broken, others created anew. Maeve Binchy has long proved herself a secure hand at multiple story lines, and over the course of 500 satisfying pages she focuses on Ria; her best friend, Rosemary Ryan, a beautiful, endlessly selfish career woman; Gertie, the battered wife of a drunkard; and several other intriguing women, each of whom has secrets not to be shared. There is even an all-knowing fortune teller who early on hints that Ria will travel and start a successful business--two things she knows are definitely not in the offing.
Yet after our supposedly happy housewife and mother of two is confronted by some inexorable home truths, a chance phone call from America will change her life, forcing her to discard her illusions about men, women, and marriage and start all over again. At the same time, the Connecticut caller, Marilyn Vine, has her own lessons to learn when she and Ria swap houses for the summer.

The summer of 1950 hasn’t offered up anything out of the ordinary for
eleven-year-old Flavia de Luce: bicycle explorations around the village, keeping
tabs on her neighbours, relentless battles with her older sisters, Ophelia and
Daphne, and brewing up poisonous concoctions while plotting revenge in their
home’s abandoned Victorian chemistry lab, which Flavia has claimed for her
own.
But then a series of mysterious events gets Flavia’s attention: A dead bird is
found on the doormat, a postage stamp bizarrely pinned to its beak. A mysterious
late-night visitor argues with her aloof father, Colonel de Luce, behind closed
doors. And in the early morning Flavia finds a red-headed stranger lying in the
cucumber patch and watches him take his dying breath. For Flavia, the summer
begins in earnest when murder comes to Buckshaw: “I wish I could say I was
afraid, but I wasn’t. Quite the contrary. This was by far the most interesting
thing that had ever happened to me in my entire life.”
Did the stranger die of poisoning? There was a piece missing from Mrs.
Mullet’s custard pie, and none of the de Luces would have dared to eat the
awful thing. Or could he have been killed by the family’s loyal handyman,
Dogger… or by the Colonel himself! At that moment, Flavia commits herself to
solving the crime — even if it means keeping information from the village
police, in order to protect her family. But then her father confesses to the
crime, for the same reason, and it’s up to Flavia to free him of suspicion.
Only she has the ingenuity to follow the clues that reveal the victim’s
identity, and a conspiracy that reaches back into the de Luces’ murky past.

Langdon joins forces with a gifted French cryptologist, Sophie Neveu, and learns the late curator was involved in the Priory of Sion -- an actual secret society whose members included Sir Isaac Newton, Botticelli, Victor Hugo, and Da Vinci, among others.
In a breathless race through Paris, London, and beyond, Langdon and Neveu match wits with a faceless powerbroker who seems to anticipate their every move. Unless Langdon and Neveu can decipher the labyrinthine puzzle in time, the Priory's ancient secret -- and an explosive historical truth -- will be lost forever.

Bill Bryson
A Walk in the Woods 3 hours abridged Kerry Shale
This book was written in the style of John McPhee and even quoting him once
in a while. It includes facts and people like "The Perfect Storm."
Then Bill Bryson adds first hand personal experiences. You can identify with his
comments that do not have to be funny to be familiar.
This book recounts Bill Bryson's experiences on the Appalachian Trail. The dry
facts can be picked up through other material. However the personal experiences
are just that, personal. If you have never been hiking then you still get a feel
for what you have missed. However if you have hiked then you can really
appreciate the people he met, and circumstances that he went through. There are
hikers and then there are hikers. In the Boy Scouts you are usually in a
well-organized group, in the military you have to be more cautious of objects
and terrain, Sierra Club and Outward Bound have their unique points of view. So
if his experience is different, it still makes for fun reading.

L.A.-based private detective Regan Reilly flies to Las Vegas -- the mythic city of cash and flash, glamour and kitsch -- to help an old school chum, Danny Madley. Danny is producing the pilot of a reality TV show, Love Above Sea Level. The show features three couples who all have experienced the proverbial Seven Year Itch and are now vying for the chance to renew their wedding vows and win one million dollars. But someone is trying to sabotage the show before Danny can shoot the final scene at the Albuquerque International Balloon Fiesta.
Danny's show is in competition with the sitcom Take Me Higher for a coveted permanent slot on Hot Air Cable, also known as the Balloon Channel. Both shows involve hot air ballooning, and both have casts of characters who are more than capable of disrupting production of Love Above Sea Level. Regan's job is to find out who is making trouble and why.
Is the culprit one of the contestants on Love Above Sea Level? Could it be the advice columnists Danny has hired -- Aunt Agony and Uncle Heartburn -- who are there to help rekindle the sparks between the husbands and wives? Is it Danny's right-hand man, Victor, a local Vegas boy Danny met while gambling? Or his cameraman Sam, who would much rather be surfing than working? Is it Bubbles Ferndale, producer of the sitcom, who is desperate to make her show the one that wins the competition? Is it Danny's ex-girlfriend, the Vegas showgirl Honey? Or her friend Lucille, a dealer in one of the casinos? Could local entrepreneur Roscoe Parker, the owner of the Balloon Channel and mastermind behind the TV competitions, be the source of all Danny's problems? There is no shortage of suspects and no shortage of mishaps.
From their base in the Fuzzy Dice Hotel, a decidedly third-rate establishment, Regan tries to help Danny keep his production on an even keel. Danny's well-meaning, meddlesome parents complicate matters. Jealousy among the Love Above Sea Level contestants escalates. Mysterious, inexplicable events keep occurring. Regan is determined to keep Danny's show on schedule, and she'll do whatever it takes -- on land and in the air!

The Light of Other Days tells the tale of what happens when a brilliant, driven industrialist harnesses the cutting edge of quantum physics to enable people everywhere, at trivial cost, to see one another at all times: around every corner, through every wall, into everyone's most private, hidden, and even intimate moments. It amounts to the sudden and complete abolition of human privacy - forever. Then, as society reels, the same technology proves able to look backwards in time as well. Salvador Montseny, have stolen some unfortunate love letters Wellesley wrote to his prostitute amour, Caterina Blazquez, and plan to use them to embarrass the British. It's up to Sharpe to recover the letters and save the alliance. Meanwhile, British troops, with little help from the Spanish army, maneuver to lift the French siege of Cadiz. As usual, Sharpe must contend with a snobbish superior officer, Brigadier Moon, who gets his just reward in a delicious surprise twist at battle's end. One hopes the nasty Father Montseny, who disappears from the action too soon, will return to bedevil Sharpe in future installments.

Like Water for Chocolate 5.5 hours abridged Yareli Arizmendi
A first novel (``the number one bestseller in Mexico in 1990'')--liberally sprinkled with recipes and homemade remedies- -from screenwriter Esquivel. Set in turn-of-the-century Mexico, it tells the romantic tale of Tita De La Garza, the youngest of Mama Elena's three daughters, whose fate, dictated by family tradition, is to remain single so that she can take care of her mother in her old age. Tita has grown up under the tutelage of the spinster cook Nacha and has learned all the family recipes and remedies. When Pedro, Tita's admirer, asks for Tita's hand in marriage, her mother refuses permission, offering instead Tita's older sister, Rosaura. Pedro accepts, thinking it will be a way to stay close to his one true love. But Tita doesn't know his thinking and, crushed by what she sees as betrayal, she must make the wedding cake. Crying as she bakes, her tears mingle with the ingredients and unleash a wave of longing in everyone who eats a piece. It is just the beginning of the realization that Tita has special talents, both in the kitchen and beyond. As we witness the nurturing Tita's struggle to be true both to family tradition and to her own heart, we are steeped in elaborate recipes for dishes such as turkey mole with almonds and sesame seeds or quail with rose petals, in medicinal concoctions for ailments such as bad breath and gas, and in instructions on how to make ink or matches. Eventually, Tita must choose between marrying a loving, devoted doctor or saving herself for Pedro, her first true love. Her choice is revealed in a surprise last chapter. Playful in its flirtation with magical realism and engaging in its folkloric earthiness but, nonetheless, light, romantic fare.

In 1942, Charlotte Gray, a young Scottish woman, goes to Occupied France on a dual mission:to run an apparantly simple errand for a British special operations group and to search for her lover, an English airman called Peter Gregory, who has gone missing in action. In the small town of Lavaurette, Sebastian Faulks presents a microcosm of France and its agony in 'the black years', here is the full range of collaboration, from the tacit to the enthusiastic, as well as examples of extraordinary courage and altruism. Through the local resistance chief Julien, Charlotte meets his father a Jewish painter whose inspiration has failed him. In Charlotte's friendship with both men, Faulks opens up the theme of false memory and of paradises—both national and personal—that appear irredeemably lost. In a series of shocking narrative climaxes in which the full extent of French collusion in the Nazi holocaust is delineated, Faulks brings the story to a resolution of redemptive love.

Fried Green Tomatoes at the Whistle Stop Cafe is the now-classic novel of two women in the 1980s: of gray-headed Mrs. Threadgoode telling her life story to Evelyn, who is in the sad slump of middle age. Comic wit Michael Gerber has created a spoof and tongue-in-cheek parody of the famous Hogwart's student, Harry Potter. How would Harry's story be different if he were a more outspoken boy of 11, instead of his obedient and vanilla self? Gerber's realistic vision of what really happens when a herd of owls flies over the dinner table, of more typical relationships between men and women, of a world turned upside-down and upside down again, will delight readers of all ages.
This fun and twisted story includes the half-giant, Halfwit, the ghostly Nearly Brainless Bill, and an order from Alpo Bumbelbore to stop the movie, "Barry Trotter and the Inevitable Attempt to Cash In." With direct hits on Harry's stardom, popularity, and the over-commercialization of the entire magical world, Michael Gerber delivers uncanny satire and biting wit.

Lying on a cot in his cell with Alexandre Dumas's Le Grand Dictionnaire de Cuisine open on his chest, Hannibal "The Cannibal" Lecter makes his debut in this legendary horror novel, which is even better than its sequel, The Silence of the Lambs. As in Silence, the pulse-pounding suspense plot involves a hypersensitive FBI sleuth who consults psycho psychiatrist Lecter for clues to catching a killer on the loose.
The sleuth, Will Graham, actually quit the FBI after nearly getting killed by Lecter while nabbing him, but fear isn't what bugs him about crime busting. It's just too creepy to get inside a killer's twisted mind. But he comes back to stop a madman who's been butchering entire families. The FBI needs Graham's insight, and Graham needs Lecter's genius. But Lecter is a clever fiend, and he manipulates both Graham and the killer at large from his cell.
That killer, Francis Dolarhyde, works in a film lab, where he picks his victims by studying their home movies. He's obsessed with William Blake's bizarre painting The Great Red Dragon and the Woman Clothed with the Sun, believing there's a red dragon within him, the personification of his demonic drives. Flashbacks to Dolarhyde's terrifying childhood and superb stream-of-consciousness prose get us right there inside his head. When Dolarhyde does weird things, we understand why. We sympathize when the voice of the cruel dead grandma who raised and crazed him urges him to mayhem--she's way scarier than that old bat in Psycho. When he falls in love with a blind girl at the lab, we hope he doesn't give in to Grandma's violent advice.

Isolated by his crimes from all physical contact with the human race, he plays an enigmatic game of "Clue" with Starling, providing her with snippets of data that, if she is smart enough, will lead her to the criminal. Undaunted, she goes where the data takes her. As the tension mounts and the bureaucracy thwarts Starling at every turn, Crawford tells her, "Keep the information and freeze the feelings." Insulted, betrayed, and humiliated, Starling struggles to focus. If she can understand Lecter's final, ambiguous scrawl, she can find the killer. But can she figure it out in time?
Seven years after Dr. Hannibal Lecter's escape from the authorities, the climax of "Silence of the Lambs, " one of his earlier victims uses Agent Starling as bait to draw the doctor into an intricate and unspeakable design for revenge.

Chill of Fear 6 hours abridged Dick Hill CD
Something old, and dark, and cold. Something evil" is on the loose at a remote, exclusive resort in the Tennessee mountains in the easy-reading second installment of the Hooper's Fear trilogy (after Hunting Fear). When an eight-year-old girl mysteriously goes missing—at least the sixth disappearance in the past few decades—a crack team of paranormals, the FBI's Special Crimes Unit (SCU), aka Spooky Crimes Unit, is on the case. SCU head Noah Bishop and telepathic new recruit Quentin Hayes recover the girl and stick around to track down the lurking evil once and for all. This isn't Hayes' first stay at the Lodge: on vacation with his parents there 25 years earlier, 12-year-old Hayes discovered the strangled corpse of his friend Missy, an unsolved crime that has haunted him since. On this visit, Hayes meets Lodge guest Diana Brisco, a striking redhead who's at the resort taking a therapeutic art class to treat the nightmares, disorientation and blackouts she's suffered since childhood. Hayes helps Diana understand that she's not crazy but rather powerfully psychic, and they join forces to rid the Lodge of evil.

Dead Sleep
6 hours abridged Susie Breck CDWhen Jordan Glass, a world-renowned photojournalist, happens on an exhibit of a series of paintings known as "The Sleeping Women," she is stunned to discover that one of the models--a nude who, like the other women in the paintings, looks dead rather than asleep--is her mirror image. But Jordan knows the face in the painting isn't her; it's her twin sister, Jane, who disappeared from her New Orleans home more than a year ago, and is presumed to have been murdered by a serial killer who's been snatching women off the streets of the Crescent City for at least that long. None of the bodies of the missing women have turned up, but their faces match the models in the other Sleeping Women paintings. A veteran FBI agent named John Kaiser brings Jordan into the Bureau's hunt for the anonymous artist, who may also know something about the disappearance of Jordan's father in Vietnam almost 30 years before.

The first in a trilogy called King Raven, Hood tells the story of an alternative Robin Hood, a rebel in the deep forests of Wales in 1093. (Lawhead's extensive research convinced him of this premise.) Son of a king, a young man named Bran is made homeless when his father is killed and the kingdom of Elfael becomes a pawn to squabbling Norman factions. A long and fascinating time in the wilderness, in which Bran's faith and health are restored by an old woman of mystical origins, brings him at last to his destiny: leading a band of dauntless archers against the kingdom's usurpers. Robin Hood is born, along with Maid Marian, Friar Tuck, and Little John, in this highly imaginative, earthy adventure that has little to do with Errol Flynn but is just as rousing.

Darkly Dreaming Dexter 8 hours unabridged Nick Landrum Audible
Miami blood spatter specialist Dexter Morgan is not your average monster. He occasionally gives in to the impulse to kill in order to satisfy the Dark Passenger inside his brain, but he's much more well-adjusted than the label "serial killer" implies. He has a girlfriend, a sense of humor and, thanks to the loving tutelage of his cop foster father, he dismembers only other serial killers. But his self-control is sorely tested when he agrees to help his sister, a vice cop, solve a string of murders so bizarre, and yet so familiar, that he seriously starts to wonder if he is committing them in his sleep.
Dearly Devoted Dexter 9.5 hours unabridged Nick Landrum CD
Dexter the Demon, Dexter the Avenger—whatever he chooses to call himself, the hero of this intelligent, darkly humorous series knows he's a monster who loves slicing people into little pieces. That Dexter limits his killing to "acceptable" victims—usually other serial killers—is designed to keep the reader from having to worry too much about the morality of his avocation. Dexter's just added his 40th victim, a homicidal pedophile, and is eagerly looking ahead to number 41 when he becomes involved in a case through his job as a blood spatter analyst at the Miami-Dade police forensics lab. A man is found with "everything on [his] body cut off, absolutely everything"—a piece of work that makes Dexter's own tidy killings look like child's play. This madman, nicknamed Danco, spends weeks surgically removing his victims' ears, lips, nose, arms, legs, etc., while keeping them alive to watch their own mutilation. Despite a certain professional admiration for Danco's dexterity, Dexter decides to take on the case. It's the contradictions in Dexter's character that make it all work—he's smart, he's funny, he cares for children, and yet he has no normal human responses or emotions.

When a killing field is unearthed in the Oregon woods, it's linked to a Portland surgeon whose increasingly aggressive behavior and explosive temper have already drawn the attention of his colleagues. Neophyte attorney Amanda Jaffe takes second chair to her father, a successful criminal lawyer retained by Dr. Vincent Cardoni when he is charged with multiple counts of murder. The victims have one thing in common: they are missing vital organs, which were clearly harvested by an expert surgeon. In this explosive and fast-paced suspense thriller, the forensic evidence against Cardoni is so convincing that even after his acquittal on a technicality, the reader, like Amanda, is sure of his guilt. And when a similar field of mutilated bodies turns up years later, Cardoni is again the primary suspect. But Cardoni has disappeared, and this time it's his former wife, Justine Castle, who's implicated in the new crimes, and Amanda who's retained as the lead attorney in the case.
The particulars of the killings are so similar to the first set of murders that Amanda is convinced Cardoni is involved. When he is found to be working at the same hospital where he was once a promising surgeon (this time as a custodian and under an assumed name), she draws the logical conclusion. But when she finds Cardoni's severed hand at the scene of the crimes, she is forced to rethink the assumptions on which her defense of the doctor's ex-wife is based. Could Justine, in fact, be the killer?

Beamon knows better than anyone that this is his last shot to save his career -- and his country. Tracking the young woman down, though, will be the hardest assignment he’s ever tackled, for she’s a gutsy world-class rock-climber who can drop out of sight anywhere in the world. And even if he finds her and the file, who can he trust when the FBI itself is under suspicion? Beamon has no room for wrong guesses -- or moves. If he blows this one, he’ll free fall straight out of the bureau -- and straight into prison....

Sylvia Nasar
A Beautiful Mind 6 hours abridged Edward Herrmann
Nasar has written a notable biography of mathematical genius John Forbes Nash (b. 1928), a founder of game theory, a RAND Cold War strategist and winner of a 1994 Nobel Prize in economics. She charts his plunge into paranoid schizophrenia beginning at age 30 and his spontaneous recovery in the early 1990s after decades of torment. He attributes his remission to will power; he stopped taking antipsychotic drugs in 1970 but underwent a half-dozen involuntary hospitalizations. Born in West Virginia, the flamboyant mathematical wizard rubbed elbows at Princeton and MIT with Einstein, John von Neumann and Norbert Wiener. He compartmentalized his secret personal life, shows Nasar, hiding his homosexual affairs with colleagues from his mistress, a nurse who bore him a son out of wedlock, while he also courted Alicia Larde, an MIT physics student whom he married in 1957. Their son, John, born in 1959, became a mathematician and suffers from episodic schizophrenia. Alicia divorced Nash in 1963, but they began living together again as a couple around 1970. Today Nash, whose mathematical contributions span cosmology, geometry, computer architecture and international trade, devotes himself to caring for his son. Nasar, an economics correspondent for the New York Times, is equally adept at probing the puzzle of schizophrenia and giving a nontechnical context for Nash's mathematical and scientific ideas.

Mario Puzo
The Family (Carol Gino) 6 hours abridged Philip Bosco **CD**
The Family brings the lawless world of 15th-century Rome to vivid life, revealing the secrets of the Vatican just as Mario Puzo once laid bare the mysteries of the Mafia. This extraordinary epic revolves around Rodrigo Borgia, Pope Alexander VI, a larger than life hero propelled by a myriad of passions-power, faith, luxury, women, and an all-powerful love of family. While his blessings are sought by kings and peasants alike, enemies from within and abroad plot his demise. As Alexander strives to restore glory to the Catholic Church and unify the city-states of Italy, he also seeks to direct the lives of his beloved children. But for all Alexander's love and might, he cannot reverse the legacy of sin that is revisited upon his children.
Alexander's son, the passionate Cesare, is torn between his father's wish that he serve the Church, and his own desire to be a warrior. The story of Cesare's rise and fall is a cautionary tale of obsession and arrogance, a story at once mythic and viscerally suspenseful. He and his sister, Alexander's beautiful and sensitive daughter Lucrezia, are jointly cursed by an unthinkable secret, served unto them by their father. And the violent fate of Alexander's heartless son Juan is eventually echoed by the deadly vengeance of the Pope's neglected son Jofre. Torn between familial love and their own irresistible motivations, the Borgias are by turns each other's most steadfast saviors-and each other's greatest threat.

In the grand manner of Interview
with the Vampire, Anne Rice's new novel moves across time and the continents,
from nineteenth-century Vienna to a St. Charles Greek Revival mansion in present-day
New Orleans to the dazzling capitals of the modern-day world, telling a story
of two charismatic figures bound to each other by a passionate commitment to
music as a means of rapture, seduction, and liberation.
At the novel's center: a uniquely fascinating woman, Triana--who once dreamed
of becoming a great musician--and the demonic fiddler Stefan, tormented ghost
of a Russian aristocrat, who begins to prey upon her, using his magic violin
first to enchant, then to dominate and draw her into a state of madness through
the music she loves.
But Triana understands the power of the music perhaps even more than does Stefan--and
she sets out to resist Stefan and to fight not only for her sanity but for her
life. The struggle draws them both into a terrifying supernatural realm where
they find themselves surrounded by memories, by horrors, and by overwhelming
truths. Battling desperately, they are at last propelled towards the novel's
astonishing and unforgettable climax.

A Thousand Country Roads 4 hours unabridged Jim Bond
Ten years and twelve million copies after the first printing of The Bridges of Madison County, Robert James Waller brings to a poignant conclusion his story of the love affair between a wandering photographer and the conventional wife of an Iowa farmer.
In A Thousand Country Roads, Robert Kincaid initially finds himself with little but memories–memories of a lonely existence lived mostly on the road and memories of Francesca Johnson, the woman whose passion he stirred so briefly and with such power. Kincaid takes to the road again in what becomes a journey of discovery and surprise. With his dog Highway beside him, Kincaid begins a long winding run back to Roseman Bridge in Madison County, Iowa, returning to the place of his great love affair.
Living her own solitary life, Francesca still visits Roseman Bridge and reflects on her days and nights with Robert Kincaid. Cherishing the memory of the strange wandering man who changed her world, she vows to search for him.
